Since November 2004, enthusiastic volunteers have been renovating the garden formerly known as the Herb and Fragrance Garden, originally built in 1978. The garden renovation will add several features that will awaken all senses as its new name suggests: the Sensory Garden.
The garden utilizes drought-tolerant mediterranean and native plans that provide fragrance, sound, and color for the senses. It is organized to offer visitors a succession of experiences, and will include Braille labels for the visually impaired.
- Entry attraction
Colorful and fragrant plantings at the entry gate inviting exploration - Tactile pathway edges
Touchable fragrant and textured plantings in a five-foot-wide strip along the raised beds - Color and sound meadow
Bold drifts of plantings will provide a spectrum of color and rustle in the breezes - Lavender hill
A mass planting of several lavender species will provide an impressive display of color and scent - Bold salvias
Vibrant colors of an array of sages draw the visitor into the garden - Seating area
The benches provide a destination and resting spot for the visitors - Culinary herbs
A chance to see, touch and smell the herbs that we are used to tasking in our foods.
