Aimee's stayed the same, but is odd enough in itself, but the big mystery is this: where did Shirley Gee's 1,471 votes go? I am not a political analyst by any far stretch of the imagination, but one would reckon that Pat's 131 might be a mix of the TJ store news and maybe some of Shirley Gee's....but somewhere, between June and November, it looks like fourteen hundred of the Shirley Gee supporters just stayed home. Anybody have any thoughts on that one?

Just a PS. Just compared the overall vote count for district 2. November votes cast: 1,321 less than June's. Hmm. How does that happen? The city-wide turn out was almost the same between the two elections BUT the turn out for district 2 -- according to the registrar -- dipped 13 % (1,321). HUGE coverage, huge energy, yet thirteen hundred total people in district two suddenly became... apolitical?

District 2 has gone through the third election for the same post in less than 2 years. It's quite possible that people didn't want to do it again and didn't believe that heaven and earth would change places if they opted out.

...so over 1,000 District 2 voters decided give a pass on Library bond measure (that would impact their local branch) not mention the Governor’s race, etc...because they begrudged having to vote for their local council person? Interesting.

It also occurred to me that maybe the City wide participation rate was based on the count at the polls -- inclusive of the absentee ballot envelopes turned in on the day of the election...but the actual choices inside may not have been tallied and reflected in the registrar's stats yet. That could explain the gap. Ok that's it -- my brain has turned to mush and I am hitting the sack...

To Nancy, You should join a myspace chatroom where you can talk endlessly, pontificate about everything, posture as interesting and launch a campaign seeking friends. That way when you drone on incessantly then talk about being sleepy, maybe someone who is also campaigning for friends will pretend to be interested.

It's time to get everybody working together on real Oakland issues like improving everyone's quality of life, whether that involves affordable housing, less crime, a nice place to shop, a good library or daffodils planted in vacant lots.

Actually, Nancy has brought up points that apparently folks do not want to face up to. She's right -- look at the registrar of voters. Pat only gained 131 votes. What DID happen to the Shirley Gee contingent? One should think if the Grand Lake Guardian is really interested in serving the needs of the the District 2 community, you'd think they'd want to explore that question, not sidestep it. Rieser is right in her last posting -- the difference may come out it the wash with the provisional and day-of-the-election mail in ballots. The "other" Simon and "Fair Play Advocate" not only did not address the issue, but posted the equivilent to a high school hallway bitch slapping.

The practically anal rehash of minutiae visited upon us here by Nancy Reiser may be interesting to you but it has the stale aura of yesterday's news mixed in with a pinch of sour grapes and a dash of "I just can't let go." It's ok to move on. And what's up with the profanity?

Actually her questioning is of interest to quite a few folks, Reilley: why so defensive about simple questioning posed by anyone? Perhaps the editorial staff could ask Shirley Gee or her staff what they think about the numbers thus far. What strikes me odd about this website is that it seems to be heavy on posturing and well poisoning and extremely light in the intellectual give-and-take department. No growth of reasoning. Seems to me (as an outsider) there is very little respect afforded to anyone who doesn't follow in lock step with the apparent editorial policies of the Guardian and nameless cyber bullies. When I read the almost simultaneous postings of Simon-NOT-Tatts and "Fair Play" it sort of exuded the aura of two teens jumping up and down and shouting "you've been punked!" ...And "anal rehash?" My, my. Potty mouthing is certainly in the eye of the beholder.

Nancy, er Julia, while I wouldn't go so far as Simon and call your posts anal rehash, there does seem to be a paranoia and fixation on something about this election that seems slightly (to be kind) overboard. There was a lot of nastiness and hypocrisy in Aimee Allison's campaign that turned many people off and was a factor in the outcome of this race. To rehash the campaign, maybe that's where you should start. Just be forewarned that most people will consider the election over and will be more focussed on what the outcome means for the city, so rehash might not gather much momentum.

What I find interesting is that the Pat supporters seem quick to catastrophize analytical questions and/or simple statements that are different than their own. A little too quickly, in fact. My general hit I get from anti-analysis people: methinks thou dost protest too much. From what I can tell, the paranoia is only implied by those who seem not to agree with questioner. I checked the Alameda County Site. From where I sit, those are pretty interesting stats. Let’s see what shakes out after the outstanding ballots are counted. As for as the charge of negativity goes, use your powers of self reflection and review the Pat K campaign literature and the pro-Pat posts here on this site, and then, my friends, look at yourself in the mirror. Hmm. The phrase "divisiveness stirred up" had me tilt my head, although I am sure you probably meant no harm with that phrase. The term "divisive" can be used by some to dismiss or belittle those are trying to affect a change or hold people accountable. In my humble opinion, the Oakland community is better served when those in the seat of power are NOT afraid to listen to voices other than their own. I sure hope that she didn't mean that AA supporters need to go away or go silent so the status quo/comfort zone can continue to exist without the pesky expectations of accountability. Nancy - you're looking "way" too deep into this. I take care of a sick 89 year old woman and live close to the corner where they (the ones in orange shirts) stood on election night, pounding drums, blasting loud speakers, etc. It sounded like they were standing in our apartment. I'm merely saying, "I'm gald it's over" and making no political judgement.

Good recovery, Erin. On a realistic note, why should snarky attitudes change overnight? My husband and I drove around the areas of Grand and MacArthur where all the big noise was and there were just as many Pat K supporters on the corners as there were AA supporters. In fact, Pat Kernighan herself was standing on MacArthur at the intersection of the Grand Lake off ramp, standing in between I think three volunteers and was waving to constituents. People were honking horns -- hard to tell who for since all volunteer camps were present. When somebody honked, all happily waved their hands back. All the volunteers looked like they were having a good time amongst the hoopala, even Pat. It had the essence of a high school pep rally, which I personally thought was sweet, given the snarkiness of the campaign, as evidenced in multiple postings on this site.

Steve mentioned that, using my reasoning, the Dellums campaign should be humbled. Hmm - dunno. Considering the Dellum folks did not put out a significant presence during the primary, they should probably feel lucky they didn't have to go through a run-off. Leslie mentioned that a couple of people were looking for me -- I hope to God she was referring to sympathetic and generous copy editors! ;o) (sigh)
