“Do you know what this means?” Mayor Ron Dellums asked the audience assembled for this morning’s Hands Around the Lake event, as he embraced city council president Ignacio De La Fuente and vice mayor Jean Quan.

“This means we’re going to work together!”

Dellums’ unifying gesture was obviously a response to Monday’s inaugural ceremony and Special Meeting of the City Council, at which Ignacio De La Fuente’s reelection to the post of council president generated a raucously negative reaction from some of the audience.
