The Transbay Joint Powers Authority (TJPA)—the agency in charge of building a new transbay terminal—is setting up a Citizens Advisory Committee (CAC) to advise its board of directors on matters of public interest to the Transbay Transit Center Program.

The Committee will include 14 voting members, representing a variety of types of interested parties, such as labor, environmentalists, bicyclists, and disabled riders. The TJPA has more information about the CAC.

Of perhaps most interest to readers of the Grand Lake Guardian: one of the CAC members will be a daily AC Transit transbay rider into San Francisco.

The Transbay Transit Center Program will replace the current, and outdated, Transbay Terminal at 1st and Mission Streets in San Francisco with a new Transit Center aimed to be “the nation’s model of new downtown intermodal stations.”

A new neighborhood will be created surrounding the new Transit Center, with homes, offices, parks, and shops. Caltrain will also be extended underground 1.3 miles to reach the new Transit Center, which would also serve as the San Francisco station for future California High Speed Rail.

The Citizens Advisory Committee will meet monthly, beginning in March, at a transit-accessible location near the terminal, at a time and location to be determined.

If you would like to be considered, submit an application to the Transbay Joint Powers Authority, 201 Mission Street, Suite 1960, San Francisco 94105 or via email to CAC@transbaycenter.org. You can download an application and find additional information about the CAC at the TJPA’s web site. Applications are due February 1, 2007.
